There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to pass, there are means around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that contains many comforts on top of the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
