Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall gaming is banned. Eight casinos are established in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that highlights many amenities on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
