Cambodia Gambling Halls
Thursday, 30. June 2022
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of conveniences aside from the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
