There is an appealing history to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is banned. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel building that contains a number of comforts on top of the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 table games.
