Cambodia Gambling Halls
Wednesday, 4. November 2009
There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel complex that contains numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
